Remnant - Francesco Langer
Project type
Glass light - Remnant
Date
2026
Location
Berlin
Remnant is a lamp made of glass and brass. Its form comes from the deadwood of a fallen tree in the Fontainebleau forest, south of Paris, which Francesco Langer 3D-scanned in June 2024.
In addition to commissioned work, the studio occasionally creates its own pieces. The forest fires in Fontainebleau prompted the completion of Remnant in 2026.
The scanned form is adapted for the lost-wax casting process: wall thickness, undercuts, and mold infill. A mold is created from the wax model, in which the glass is formed using the hot-mold technique. The surface of the wood is preserved down to the smallest detail.
The base is a brass casting produced using the sand-casting process by Bronzen-Gunkel. It houses a dimmable LED that illuminates the glass from below.
Material: Glass, Brass | Technique: 3D scan, lost-wax casting, hot mold, sand casting | Year: 2026
